Pre Auricular Sinus
These are congenital holes in front of the ear. Once infected they can leave a small lump. It is important to remove them with a wide margin to avoid recurence.
For the larger sinuses with a significant area of infected skin I have developed a technique which excises a triangle of skin in front of the ear and then rotates the ear forward. 2 months later there is a small linear scar and the ear is back in a normal position. The advantage is that this technique allows a wide excision without the need for grafting etc.
