PERSONAL STATEMENT:

Since my earliest exposure to Otolaryngology at medical school I have been fascinated with this specialty.  I enjoyed the challenge presented by having to manage the medical and surgical problems of the Ear, Nose and Throat region, that there is great variety within the specialty and that the surgery is often intricate and complex.  For these reasons I choose a career in ENT.  During my registrar training I developed a lasting interest in Paediatric Otolaryngolgy (with a specialist interest in paediatric airway, head and neck and rhinology).

I gained my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in October 2021, and undertook a dedicated 12 month post CCT fellowship in Paediatric ENT at Great Ormond Street Hospital.  I have a comprehensive training in all aspects of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and am competent in all otolaryngology emergencies. I have significant experience in rhinology and skullbase surgery, having performed  190 FESS, 30 endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary resections and 103 Septorhinoplasty.  I have performed over 250 major neck resections, including 120 Thyroidectomies as primary surgeon, and 30 Tracheostomies.  Latterly my training has given me a comprehensive exposure to complex Paediatric Otolaryngology.  During my post CCT fellowship at GOSH I was exposed to a wide range of complex paediatric patients, including children with congenital and acquired head and neck abnormalities, multilevel airway disease, craniofacial patients, and cleft. I have now performed over 500 MLB’s, 40 Branchial cyst excisions, 50 Choanal Atresia repairs, 35 thyroglossal duct cyst excisions and 10 Laryngotracheal Reconstructions.  I am now employed as a dedicated Paediatric ENT Consultant surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Academically, I have a good track record in engagement in both clinical and educational research.  I have both a MD and a BMedSci.   During my MD research I investigated The role of Human Factors in ENT, and developed a multidisciplinary simulation programme to improve patient safety.   I continue to have an active interest in research which has culminated in 18 published papers, 10 abstracts and I have presented at 25 international or national meetings.

I am a determined and hardworking surgeon and I have a track record of delivering both clinically and academically.  I believe I would be a good addition to your Hospital, not only contributing to the ongoing excellent work already established, but also acting as an ambassador for the trust and its values.
